DPD honoured with three awards by the Institute of Couriers

Latest treble means DPD has won 10 awards in 23 days

Leading parcel delivery firm DPD has won three awards at the Institute of Couriers’ National Courier Awards 2020.  The treble takes DPD’s recent run of award wins to an incredible 10 in the last 23 days.

DPD was recognised by the Institute of Couriers with two Corporate Awards for its role delivering personal protective equipment (PPE) to the NHS during lockdown and improvements made to road safety.  In addition, DPD Linehaul Recruiter Natasha Emery was recognised with an Individual National Courier Award.

The news follows recent wins for DPD at the Parcel and Postal Technology International Awards 2020 (Service Provider of the Year) and the Retail Insider Awards (Delivery Innovation of the Year). In addition, DPD won five Motor Transport Awards in October, including Customer Care, Home Delivery Operator and Urban Delivery Operator of the Year.

The National courier Awards are hosted by the Institute of Couriers, the government stakeholder for express and last mile delivery, and are judged by an independent panel of operators and sector stakeholders.  For 2020 the focus was on the role of the industry during the pandemic, its key workers and the critical infrastructure response.  The National Courier Awards are open to all, and are split in two categories, corporate and individual.

Due to the ongoing restrictions caused by the pandemic, the Institute went out on the road to deliver the news to each of the winners, before celebrating with a special online award ceremony.

DPD’s three awards:

Corporate National Courier Award for delivering PPE to the NHS for free

DPD was honoured for its ‘exemplary action during COVID’.  DPD joined forces with UK-wide 3DCrowd, the community of 3D printer owners using their machines to help alleviate the acute shortage of PPE for frontline healthcare workers in early lockdown.

National Courier Award for Contribution to Road Safety

The DPD Road Safety Team introduced a new approach to recruitment and training with a focus on manoeuvre-based driver assessments that improved road safety and reduced accident rates.

Individual National Courier Award – Natasha Emery

Linehaul Recruiter Natasha Emery was recognised for her role in recruiting 172 additional, permanent linehaul drivers during lockdown, as DPD expanded rapidly to meet record demand for its services.

Dwain McDonald, DPD’s CEO commented, “This is turning into an incredible few weeks for DPD.  Ten awards in less than a month, is good going, by anyone’s standards.  We really appreciate all the work done by the Institute of Couriers and it is great to celebrate the role the entire sector played, and is still playing, during the pandemic.  We are an industry that is often taken for granted, but two of the very few good things to come out of all of this, has been the response of our sector and the much greater appreciation and understanding of the vital role we all play.

“It is difficult to single out any individual or team for recognition when the whole company has been magnificent this year, but I’m absolutely delighted for Natasha and the Road Safety guys.  I’m incredibly proud of our overall response, especially our work with the NHS, but also in terms of food deliveries which we had to scale-up almost overnight.  We know now that things aren’t going to change fundamentally for a while yet, so we are continuing to manage the challenge of record parcel volumes, but I know the team will keep stepping up and playing their part in helping get the nation through this.”
