6 Nov, 17 “App-y Christmas!” The Your DPD app reaches 2 million downloads

Unique app is set to play a major role in DPD’s 2017 Christmas peak plan

DPD’s unique Your DPD app is set to play a leading role in the firm’s Christmas peak planning after passing a major landmark with its 2 millionth user download.

The UK’s favourite parcel delivery company launched the ground breaking app in May 2016 to enable customers to take complete control over their parcel deliveries, and ensure that they never miss a delivery again.

The Your DPD app is packed with features that have helped improve DPD’s already high first time delivery success rate by a further 3% for app users.  Features include a half-hour heads-up push notification, live driver tracking, preferred neighbours, multiple delivery addresses, safe place pictures, delivery between school runs and the option of a second delivery attempt, as the app can automatically notify the driver when customers have returned home.

As a result, the app is at the heart of DPD’s comprehensive plans for another record breaking Christmas, with an anticipated 28 million DPD parcels to be delivered between Black Friday and Christmas Eve.

Other key aspects of DPD’s Christmas peak plan include Sunday deliveries which have been a core part of the DPD service since 2014, but come into their own at Christmas, and the DPD Pickup parcel shop network.  DPD customers can divert parcels to big name shops including Sainsbury’s, Matalan, Halfords and Habitat and collect them at their leisure.

Underpinning it all will be the DPD network which has seen major investment again in 2017 with the opening of six new permanent depots and distribution centres in London City, Leeds, Bristol, Cornwall, Bournemouth and Hinckley.

DPD’s CEO Dwain McDonald commented: “We’re ready for Christmas.  As always, we’ve planned every detail and our team has been working on it since January to make sure we deliver a record breaking peak.”

“With 2 million customers now using the app it does really start to make a difference to the operation.  This Christmas will feel very different.  More customers will be in full control of their delivery and be able to take advantage of a wide range of ‘in-flight options’ and enhanced features.

“We made our name with Predict, notifying customers in advance of their one hour delivery slot by SMS and email, but the app is rapidly taking over.  It is the perfect platform for us and pulls together all the good stuff we do in one place.  But the big plus point is that we can really personalise the service we give people.  You define the kind of delivery you want, it’s your safe places, your Pickup shops and your preferred neighbours.  That allows us to communicate with customers in a totally different way and give them an even better experience.”

The app is free to download from Apple and Android app stores and DPD has produced a short film to explain how it works:  http://www.dpd.co.uk/lp/yourdpd/index.html#video
