Howes Percival hails success of new Corporate Finance Club

New club aims to raise profile of Cambridge corporate finance community

Leading law firm Howes Percival has hailed the first Cambridge Corporate Finance Club event a huge success and confirmed that arrangements are underway for the next meeting of the group in June 2020.

The Cambridge Corporate Finance Club provides an opportunity for local professionals and members of the wider corporate finance community to build better connections locally and develop a strong working relationship with their peers.  It aims to highlight and promote the services available to local businesses and organisations and, ultimately increase the number of corporate deals completed in and around Cambridge.

The inaugural meeting of the Club was well supported by the Cambridge business community, including representatives working in financial planning, finance management, banking, accountancy, legal services, corporate finance and corporate broking.

Guest speaker, John Gourd, CEO of the Cambridge Network, shared his thoughts on the Cambridge business community and activity in the region.  He spoke about the ‘Cambridge Phenomenon’ and touched on the main sectors operating in Cambridge, including bioscience, medicine and tech.  Mr Gourd talked about the corporate giants including Amazon, Microsoft and Apple who have chosen to have a presence in Cambridge and about the infrastructure required to support future growth and maintain Cambridge’s global brand.

He asked attendees to consider how they can support the future of the Cambridge Phenomenon and highlighted the importance of making connections to foster growth in the city.

Brigitta Naunton, a Corporate Director at Howes Percival said, “Cambridge is a hub for some of the most innovative and fastest-growing businesses in the world.  The city has a thriving business community, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit – it’s a fantastic place to do business.  The objective of the Corporate Finance Club is to ensure that these companies know about the excellent corporate finance services available on their doorstep and ensure more transactions are completed within the county.

“Cambridge is also home to some of the most talented corporate finance professionals in the industry.  The intention of the Corporate Finance Club is to provide a forum for discussion, networking, to encourage greater collaboration between corporate finance professionals and, raise the profile of the collective quality and experience we have to offer.

“Greater collaboration will benefit not only firms working in corporate finance, but the wider economy of Cambridge and its surrounding areas by cultivating an investment/transaction culture, leading to a greater number of deals in the area.”

Brigitta Naunton continued, “The Cambridge business community have been very supportive of this new initiative and the turn-out to the inaugural meeting was fantastic.  We’re very grateful to John Gourd for taking the time to address the group and share his unique insights.  The feedback from those who attended was extremely positive.  There’s clearly a big appetite for this type of networking and for the corporate finance community to promote its collective expertise and the quality of its work.  We hope those who attended will spread the message to colleagues and contacts.  It would be great to welcome even more professionals at our next meeting.  We’d love more representatives from the banks, private equity and venture capital firms and business angels, especially.”

The Cambridge Corporate Finance Club will meet quarterly, it is open to financiers and professionals working in the field of corporate finance in and around Cambridge.  Anyone interested in joining the Club can find out more information by emailing events@howespercival.com
