12 May, 16 The Lawyer Awards: Howes Percival shortlisted for Regional Law Firm of the Year 2016

Howes Percival has been shortlisted for Regional Law Firm of the Year 2016 in the highly prestigious The Lawyer Awards.

Now in its 22nd year, The Lawyer Awards has established itself as the leading awards initiative in the legal sector and is recognised as one of the biggest nights of the year for the profession. The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of Wednesday 29 June 2016 at the InterContinental London, the O2.

The shortlisting is vindication of Howes Percival’s ambitious strategy for growth over the past two years, which has seen the firm improve and modernise every aspect of the practice. The regeneration has resulted in a strong, unified business with a unique culture and clear values that is proving to be appealing to talented recruits and clients alike.

Recent highlights for Howes Percival include:

Cambridge – Howes Percival entered the Cambridge market for the first time in April 2015 and rapidly expanded the team throughout the year. In November 2015, the firm acquired 13 members of Taylor Vintners’ commercial property and property litigation teams in Cambridge.  The Cambridge office has grown so substantially during the year that it moved to larger premises at the end of April.

The Legal 500 – teams across all the offices achieved high levels of recognition in the 2015 edition of The Legal 500 – the authoritative guide to the UK’s leading law firms – with the firm awarded top tier rankings in 12 different specialisms, including three new practice areas. In East Anglia Howes Percival replaced Eversheds to become one of the top three firms in the region.

New premises  – the firm has undertaken a significant investment programme to move all offices to new and improved premises, starting with Leicester and continuing with Milton Keynes in 2015, Norwich in April 2016 and Northampton in June 2016.

Investment in people and services – Howes Percival now has 40 partners compared to 28 just 18 months ago. The firm has invested significantly in recruitment to supplement its existing team, and added additional services and specialisms.

Howes Percival’s Chairman Tessa Haskey commented; “I’m absolutely thrilled. The firm has undergone a transformation in the last 12 to 18 months and this is a real endorsement of the changes we’ve made and our commitment to improvement and growth.  I’m delighted for our staff who have worked so hard to deliver new offices and establish new teams and new services.

“We had a clear strategy to expand the firm across the heartland of England, focussing on locations and sectors with high growth potential. We’ve also invested in people; and been able to attract some incredible new talent to the firm as well as training and developing our existing team.  We’ve also looked to be innovative in the way we provide client services, with improvements in the use of technology, pricing and the packaging of services.

“We recently asked our staff how they would describe Howes Percival. The most common descriptions were: agile, energetic, entrepreneurial, commercial, innovative and experienced. I can’t think of a better summary of what we believe the firm is all about.”
