25 Aug, 16 Appeal for donations to fund wildlife habitats in Heigham Park

The Friends of Heigham Park have launched an appeal for donations to fund the purchase and installation of wildlife habitat boxes for the park. In addition to bird nesting boxes, The Friends are hoping to raise sufficient funds to buy bat boxes and insect houses.

Chair of the Friends of Heigham Park, Roberta Manners, commented, “The trees, green spaces and gardens in Heigham Park attract a variety of birds, insects and other wildlife – which are enjoyed by many visitors to the park – both young and old.

“In a built-up area it can be difficult for birds and other wildlife to find suitable nesting sites and while there’re a handful of old bird boxes in the park, unfortunately many of these are in disrepair having either rotted or been damaged by predators. So, we are appealing for donations to buy a variety of new secure bird, bat and insect habitat boxes and, metal nest box plates to deter squirrels and other predators from gaining access.

“Costing between £7.00 and £18.00 each, the boxes are made from long-lasting, responsibly sourced materials. We’re hoping to raise sufficient donations to purchase eight bird boxes, three bat boxes, one solitary bee box, three bug boxes and 14 nest box plates. It would be great if local residents, schools and business support this initiative. We think a habitat box would make an ideal gift for a nature-loving family member or friend.”
