18.08.2008 MAW Communications shortlisted for prestigious PR award

Norwich based PR agency MAW Communications has been shortlisted for a Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) East Anglia PRide Award.  The Agency has been shortlisted in the ‘Low Budget’ campaign category for its work on the launch of brand and communications agency, Turton Middleton.

The ‘Low Budget’ category of the awards honours successful PR campaigns that have been undertaken for under £10,000.   Turton Middleton’s brief was to launch the ‘new name’ agency, raising awareness of its services, both locally and nationally, in order to build business.  Rather than just issuing company news which wouldn’t have been sufficient to raise the agency’s profile, MAW Communications saw an opportunity to provide expert commentary on brand stories and associate Turton Middleton with the biggest brand issues and marketing stories.

MAW Communications developed a ‘Brand Expert’ and media commentator campaign for Simon Middleton incorporating stories directly affecting Norfolk brands and utilising national brand indexes.

The campaign generated over 100 items of TV, radio and press coverage with an Advertising Value Equivalent (AVE) of over £250,000.  As a result, Simon is now recognised as the region’s leading brand expert.  Turton Middleton has won a string of significant new accounts and increased their staff numbers by over a third.

MAW Communications Director Gordon Maw said: “I am delighted we have reached the final shortlist which means that our work has been judged to be amongst the best in the UK.  Our work with Turton Middleton illustrates the importance of thinking big and really aligning the PR strategy to the client’s business priorities.  Turton Middleton’s business is all about ‘Making Brands Work’ therefore the PR strategy was designed to associate them with the biggest brand stories around and give them a platform to demonstrate their expertise by explaining how brands work.”

Gordon concluded, “This campaign shows what is possible with a really strategic approach to PR and demonstrates that budget need not be a barrier if the agency is creative and skilled at working with the media.”

The overall winners of the CIPR East Anglia PRide Awards will be announced at a dinner in Newmarket on 3 December 2008.
